Snow coverage

Section L (Canada to Rainy Pass)

  • Currently Section L is more snow than not. From Glacier Pass to Castle Pass is all snow. The only clear areas are the lower parts of Porcupine Creek, Methow River, and Route Creek. I will detail the trail report when this section is less than half snow.
  • Until this section clears, southbound thru hikers with a permit-dictated start date might want to use the Robinson Creek alternate route to get to the north terminus.
  • Sadly, the Slate Peak Fire Lookout collapsed over the winter. So you may see ruins.

Section K North (Rainy Pass to NF Sauk River)

  • Completely snow free from Rainy Pass, past High Bridge, all the way to mm 2557.
  • Snow over Suiattle Pass from 2557 to 2554.5 (The sweet alternates there also under snow)
  • Completely snow free from 2554.5 to 2535 (Vista Ridge)
  • All snow from 2535 to 2517
  • Kennedy Creek and White Chuck River are clear
  • Snow starts again at 2510 as you climb toward Red pass.

Section K South (NF Sauk River to Stevens Pass)

  • Note, Where the NF Sauk River Trail connects with the PCT there is White Pass and Red Pass. This is not the White Pass on highway 12 and it's not the Red Pass near Kendall Katwalk.
  • This section is mostly snow covered. Even Lake Valhalla is still frozen over.

Section J (Stevens Pass to Snoqualmie Pass)

Too much snow to make a detailed report worth it. Its melted around Waptus Lake and Pete Lake, and south of the Katwalk. Everything else is mostly snow.

Section I, North (Snoqualmie Pass to Naches Pass)

This section is completely clear except for spotty patches north of Mirror Lake for 2 miles.

Section I, Mid (Naches Pass to Chinook Pass)

Completely clear all the way from Mike Urich Cabin to east of Echo lake. Then spotty small snow patches to Martinson Gap. Then mostly snow to Chinook Pass. There's even snow south of Sheep Lake.

Section I, South (Chinook Pass to White Pass)

Large snowfields from Chinook Pass to Bumping River. Then mostly snow to White Pass that is very close to being gone.

Section H, North (White Pass to Midway)

  • Snow from White Pass to 2290.
  • Clear from 2290 to 2285
  • Mostly snow from 2285 to 2271 (Wallupt lake)
  • clear from 2271 to 2268
  • Then spotty from 2268 to 2256 (Midway)

Section H, Mid (Midway to Williams Mine)

Completely clear from Midway to 2250 then Mt Adams is about 75% snow covered by many small patches above 5,000 ft. on the north side and above 5,400 ft on the south side.

Section H, South (Williams Mine to Columbia River)

Completely clear from NF-23 to 2218 (slightly north of Indian Heaven) Then spotty 2209 to 2204 (just before leaving Indian Heaven). Then completely clear to the Bridge of the Gods.
